Dubai Debt Raising Fears Worldwide, Gold Drops and US Dollar Strengthen

My interest in Gold and the US Dollar grew in the past couple of weeks, as a person who is not that much into the financial world I didn’t care much when a friend started talking about the gold rise and how the dollar will become worthless soon. Well as much as that seemed a bit over the top and a very very far fetched thought yet the whole scenario intrigued me and I started reading more and educating myself about how things are playing out in the markets worldwide.

Between the truth and lies and the conspiracy theorists and the opportunists I had a huge struggle in really fully understanding how is this thing working, but the big picture got clearer day after day.

The Gold reached record highs in the past 9 days, and every day you would read the same kind of headline “Gold reaches a record high”. Every Day!! Yesterday it reached $1195 USD, but then news broke from Dubai stating that Dubai requested debt ‘standstill’, that lead to fears in the worldwide markets, this caused a sell-off in commodities and stocks, while the U.S. dollar gained against its rivals.

The Gold dropped to a $1130 USD an ounce after reaching $1195 USD, as of the time of writing this post the gold is at $1176 USD. So this seems to be just a temporary drop that wont last long.

Did Max Keiser predict this back in February 2009 ?

Barack Obama Chooses Joe Biden as Vice President

Expect at least couple of more weeks of slicing and dicing Joe Biden by the media. What’s really funny is they talk about basic basic known facts, so what are they trying to say? all what they are saying Obama already knows and have put in consideration, its good to state the facts for people who do not know, but acting as if Obama’s campaign did not know those facts already and acting as if its NEW that’s what I call MEDIA BS.

Barack Obama Informs Tim Kaine and Evans Bayh They Are Not VP Pick

Just minutes ago MSNBC broke the news that sources told NBC that Barack Obama informed Kaine and Bayh they were not selected for VP. If it is Biden its a good choice, as I said before, I will really be SHOCKED if it was Hillary Clinton. I do not know much about Tim Kaine, but I think Biden is a better choice than Bayh, Evans Bayh would have been a bad bad choice. But who knows Obama could shock us all and choose the newly mentioned shortlist finalist Chet Edwards, the secrecy is amazing, only recently the media uncovered his name.

Barack Obama to Announce Evan Bayh as Vice President Choice on Wednesday 6th of August 2008 ?!

bayh Well this is not a sure thing, but many many journalists and media sources are either directly or indirectly hinting that Obama might announce his choice for Vice President before the Olympics, the reason for choosing this time is that the media will be focused on the Olympics and the only other time to do that is on the convention. So to take the attention of the media a number of journalists are predicting that it would be on Wednesday, some even predict who it will be, and the name I am reading and hearing a lot these past few days is Evan Bayh the Indiana Senator.

Although I have been following the news carefully on TV, Newspapers and Online Political Blogs, nothing was as accurate and as straightforward as the article I read on the Huffington Post on the 4th of August where Bil Browning states why he predicts that Obama will be announcing his VP on Wednesday and why it will be Bayh. I think the most powerful reason he states is when he wrote:

“I just got an invite from the Obama campaign to attend an appearance on Wednesday that isn’t on Obama’s official calendar. Why not? The campaign said, “I can’t tell you what the event is about, but we want to make sure you have a ticket so you can cover it for the Bilerico Project. We want Bilerico Project to be there for this one.”"

I think Evan Bayh is a good choice for many reasons, and a bad choice for many many reasons too. One of the most obvious reasons why he might be a good choice is ofcourse the chance in turning Indiana blue in November, another reason could be that he was a Clinton supporter, but I think one of many reasons why he is a bad choice is the fact that he was PRO-WAR, and he is a Conservative who was an honorary co-chair of the neocon pro-war Committee For the Liberation of Iraq, with McCain !?!?! Many might debate how Conservative bayh is, but in the end of the day he is a conservative who was with McCain in the Iraq Liberation Committee, what can be said more than that?

So although the scenario depicted by the media is PERFECT and MAKES SENSE, the CHOICE is sort of BAD. Just saying… lets wait and see.

U.S. TV Networks CBS, ABC and NBC only spend two minutes weekly for IRAQ War News Coverage, also Lara Logan on The Daily Show (VIDEO)

According to the New York Times only an average of two minutes is being spent by the American Networks such as CBS, ABC and NBC. Those networks are also not telling the public the number of Iraqis killed since the US invasion (which is around a million until now) or the number of Iraqis being displaced (which is around Five Millions until now). The Real News Network sums all this in one very informative video by their analyst Pepe Escobar. I think the part were Lara Logan speaks to Jon Stewart is just amazing.

Here is the FULL Lara Logan interview on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart:

U.S. Backed News Channel Al-Hurra (The Free One) is a Flop

Did they, USA, think that this stupid move will work?! Creating a news channel in the Middle East and publicly announcing that it is backed by the government of USA, actually the U.S. government spent $350 dollars from taxpayers on this project, if they just asked, they would have known that this project is simply not going to work. The funny thing is that they thought they will be spreading democracy in the Middle East through such a channel.

So although here in the Middle East we know for a fact that its a flop, you know there in U.S. they love surveys and polls, so a new survey done in six countries in the Middle East stated that only two percent tune to the channel as a first choice for news source.

“Arabs sit in their homes in front of the television, and they surf like crazy,” said Hisham Melhem, a Washington-based anchor for al-Arabiya. “You rarely find someone who says they watch al-Hurra. It may be number 10 on their dial. But definitely not first, not second, not third, not fourth.”

USA and Australia follows Britain by Issuing a Terrorist Threat Alert for the United Arab Emirates

So yesterday we got the news that Britain have issued terrorism attacks warnings for their citizens in UAE. And I know many who just did not take this seriously, saying that USA still did not issue any warning of that sort. As if the USA is any better reliable source. Anyway, so now Washington replies by issuing the same warning of a possibility that there might be a terrorist attack in UAE. Australia is the third country to do the same.

At first and like many people I thought that this is just an attempt by both countries (UK and USA) to affect the economy and tourism in UAE. But after reading what Brown and Bush said yesterday and then how Iran have withdrew 75 Billion Dollars from Europe, all what I can hear is the drums of war.

For full info on the U.S. threat warning read Reuters Article.

Lets just hope that this passes safely and lets also pray that we see no more violence this summer in the Middle East.

Three New Signs that a War on Iran is Near

I am not a pro political analyst, but just three headlines I read today made me believe that the Iran War is coming near and looks like its just matter of time. No one on this earth wants a war, except Israel I guess.

The first thing I heard was the announcement from the British Embassy that the risk of a terrorist attack in UAE is High. Then I saw Bush and Brown in a joint press conference where Bush said that although he hopes to settle Iran’s nuclear standoff through diplomacy he will not rule out the use of force. He said “I would like to say one thing about the Iranian demand for civilian nuclear power, it is a justifiable demand,” but he did repeatedly vow to keep the military option on the table by stating “consequences of a nuclear-armed Iran are such that military strikes are justified, whether a smoking gun is found or not”.

Brown echoed the same message, stating that an action will be taken against Iran, “Today Britain will urge Europe, and Europe will agree to take further sanctions against Iran, We will take action today that will freeze the overseas assets of the biggest bank in Iran, the Melli bank, and secondly action will start today for a new phase of sanctions on oil and gas”.

The third headline that made it so clear, crystal clear, its the news that Iran withdrew 75 Billion dollars from Europe yes I know how you feel :) . Basically Iran withdrew the 75 Billion dollars from Europe to prevent the assets getting blocked under the new sanctions.

I do not know what other news today or this week gave other clues, but those are the three news items that made me think this way. I might be mistaken, well actually I wish I am mistaken, we do not need more wars.

UK warns of High Attack Risks in the United Arab Emirates

I just knew few hours ago that the British Embassy in the United Arab Emirates raised the terror alert level from (General) to (High), I heard that some Britons and people from other nationalities are panicking and it looks like most of them are taking this seriously, as we all should, and trying to avoid going to public places. This was posted on the embassy’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office website (www.fco.gov.uk) this Saturday:

“There is a high threat from terrorism. We believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE, Attacks could be indiscriminate and could happen at any time, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests,”

The website also states that over a million British visitors travelled to the UAE in 2006, and more than 100,000 British nationals are resident there.

None of the other western countries such as USA have issued any warning of this sort yet.
