DU Customer Support Experience – The Worst Ever

I became suicidal today, yes, this was the worst 2 hours dealing with customer support in my life. I call customer support of many companies, there are great ones and there are bad ones, DU is simply THE WORST.

du-telecom-logoTwo Hours and I still did not get any info. Yes, I repeat I have spent two full hours and I still did not deal with my issue, I did not get any info, at all. The thing started when I got the "DU Call Select" device, I think they call it "Autodialer", am not sure. The phone number which was printed on the device and in the manual was 800155, so, silly me, I called the number and chose the Arabic language, after that I waited and waited and waited and…. you guessed it WAITED. I tried my luck in the English language hoping some human might answer and I waited and waited and oh! I suddenly heard a voice, could it be a human voice I said hello and the employee said hello… YESSSS!! At Laaaaaaast….

My dream came true and I reached someone and when I asked the first question he said "please wait" and the same obnoxious music started playing AGAIN, he didn’t even wait for me to say a word. I was thrown from one employee to another, don’t forget that until this moment I still did not ask any important questions this was only me starting a conversation. Anyway, eventually I reached another employee who was shocked why I am stressed and shouting, I told him why I was pissed and he said "oooh! you called the wrong number, you should have called 04-3905555" those are the ones who deal with landlines, but I made it perfectly clear I did not want help in "DU Land Lines" I want help in "Du Call Select" which has a device that when connected to regular (ETISALAT) landline you can call in DU’s rates.

He totally ignored my point and told me he is 100% sure that calling 04-3905555 will end my problems. So I called the number and after chatting for couple of minutes the lady tells me that they are not the ones who deal with this service and they deal only with DU Landlines and broadband and TV!!! So… She gives me another number, I call them praying that they can actually help or even answer my first question, but when I call them the guy says "Oh, I guess you made a mistake…", so I tell him "Don’t tell me that this is the wrong number, please do not give me another number", he laughs and say "well if you want help you should have called the number printed on the device, 800155"!!!!. I hangup, and laugh hysterically, non-stop tears run out of my eyes and I keep on laughing for around 15 minutes until I get myself under control and decide that this should be shared with my blog visitors & subscribers.

I think it is really a big big SHAME that a company such as DU has this low quality customer support, I believe that 800155 should be able to help current or potential customers in any matter ever, I like Etisalats new approach where calling 101 will lead you to each and every aspect and departments of the company. I am not saying that Etisalat customer support is fantastic but for sure they are million times better than DU. I also think that with DU not having such a great mobile service as everybody actually keeps complaining on the weakness of the network and mainly how crappy the reception is, I would have thought that they would be having a better customer service . Thank God that I do not have a DU card, my father and brother got it and they keep on having nervous breakdowns at least once a week.

Note: Please share any of your positive or negative customer support experiences with any company, especially Du or Etisalat.

MoveOn fights Facebook for lack of privacy

This is not totaly new news, Facebook Beacon has collected many critics since it started, it is basicly a new Facebook adverising model. Simply if you buy anything anywhere online this info will be shared on your profile news board.

So now MoveOn the online campaign group is taking action, they created a Facebook group called “Facebook, stop invading my privacy“, the group has 9,724 members until writing this post. And MoveOn also started an online petition.

Here what they had to say :

“When you buy a book or movie online, or make a political contribution, do you want that information automatically shared with the world on Facebook?” the group asked.

“Most people would call that a huge invasion of privacy. But recently, Facebook began doing just that. People across the country saw private purchases they made on other sites displayed on their Facebook News Feeds.”

CNN made a story about this conflict…

Firefox 3 Beta 1 is out.. Whats good and whats not?

Don’t even think of replacing your current Firfox with this, no, just give it time this is still Beta. I downloaded it yesterday and I didn’t want to quickly write any post just saying its out, i wanted to have a look at it first. Make sure its a real Beta. This is a real Beta release. Thank God.

Although you will hear praises all over the net of how great this version is, but still some things don’t change, yes you guessed it, MEMORY usage. Its still not fully dealt with, of-course I already told you before of an add-on for Firefox 3 that helps with this problem, but i was wishing that maybe the issue would be resolved directly by Mozilla. After using this beta for couple of hours Firefox ended up eating 825,636k of my memory (as shown in the pic below) . So the issue is still there. Am not saying that there was no improvements at all, of-course there are several enhancements. (Continue reading after the jump)

Firefox now uses the Gecko rendering engine, which makes things smoother, but not as smooth as we want yet!. In addition of security features that alerts you while visiting insecure websites and allows you to automatically virus scan your downloads with your Anti-Virus scanner (as shown in the pic below).

I am sure tho, the most beloved new feature by web surfers would be the “PLACES” feature, where it makes it easier to find websites you have visited recently or more often or even starred them for later browsing.

Download it and give it a try…

Writers Strike, domino effect on TV…

At first I didn’t think the Writers Strike would last long, I expected that the fat cats would cave in to try to avoid losing billions of dollars, at least that’s how i saw it. But it seems that the strike is going to continue and none of them are willing to lean towards any solution.

To be honest at first i didn’t understand what was the issue, and i thought those writers are really greedy, especially after reading some responses from the big guys in the industry, but thanks to a videos posted on youtube by the writers explaining what they are fighting for, I understood the situation and now I know that they are not asking for much.

Here is the video:

Ofcourse this strike is going to have a huge affect on all of your favourite shows, and if it gets longer it seems that networks will start airing more and more reality shows, yes no need for writers, there is even a talk of Big Brother on CBS to start in the Winter for the first time in its history, as you know Big Brother is a summer show. Microsoft buys a piece of Facebook, an expensive piece…

Well there were signs all over the net that there is a huge bidding war between Microsoft and Google and it seems Miscrosoft just wanted it more than anybody. The speculation was that who ever wins the bidding in the end will buy around 10% of Facebook, but the war ended with Microsoft paying $240 Million for a 1.6% stake in Facebook. Which makes Facebook overall value goes up to 15 freakin BILLION Dollars, $15 Billion, wow, although this year they have made only around $150 Million in revenue.

So what is the deal exactly, well Facebook gets allllot of cash, employ some new employees, expand to other countries and so on, for Microsoft, it will be selling ads that show up on Facebook outside the U.S and share the revenue with Facebook, btw Microsoft already sell ads for Facebook in the U.S.

Who should we congratulate? who is the real winner here ? only time will tell.

The Perfect Storm in Cyberspace… The “Storm Worm”

Nobody is talking about it, I never heard about anything like this until now. I am talking about the “Storm Worm”. We all know worms, Sasser is a famous example, but these worms we know are simple and easily noticeable, simply because they were fastly spread.

Apparently this worm appeared in January and is spreading steadily since then, this worm affects machines that run windows, which means around 90% of the machines used in the world. It first appeared hidden in email attachments with the subject “230 dead as storm batters Europe”. The infected machines became part of a BotNet, no one knows how big is this BotNet but professionals estimate that it might be between a million and 50 million computers worldwide by now.

Yes, it is pretty scary, because until now this person or organization is not using this BotNet heavily or for anything big, which means they are waiting for the right time, maybe the right price who knows?!

To get the full picture and read dull details , please read this article written by John Naughton in “The Observer”.
