This game was unlikely to be a thriller, with the current holders Greece going against Sweden. Both teams tactics are usually to defend and then counter attack, so there was going to be a clash. Sweden were wearing yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts, and Greece were wearing all white.
Within the first ten minutes, nothing really seemed to happen, there was open play and Sweden created a couple of runs down the wings, and at around ten minutes Greece started to play a bit of football as well, forcing Man City and Sweden goal keeper Isaksson in to some saves.
The game continued in this boring manner for the majority of the half, Sweden creating some good opportunities, but neither team really seemed very interested in the game, and usual hot shot Henrik Larsson didn’t seem to want to shoot.
Commentators and Greek and Swedish fans alike were clearing incensed when the Greek defenders started playing it around, keeping it within three players and boring everyone to within an inch of their lives after playing the ball to one another for minutes before lumping the ball up field for a Swedish throw. In fact, the most entertaining part of the first half was when Inter Milan striker Ibrohimavic was kicked right where it hurts.
It was a relief for everyone when the half time whistle blew and concluded what was easily the most boring half of football in Euro 2008 so far, and everyone was hoping the second half would be more exciting.
As the players came out for the second hand, it soon became apparent the manager’s half time discussions hadn’t been very inspiring, the players once again boring us to death until on the sixty seventh minute Ibrohimavic played a cute little one – two with Henrik Larsson before smashing the ball into the top corner.
Greece stepped up their game after this, but on the seventy third minute Hansson bundled the ball over the line following a catalogue of errors from both Freddy Ljungberg and the Greek players alike. After this it was effectively game over.
Overall, an appalling game, both teams failing to impress, especially current holders Greece, who can’t have had more than five shots in the whole game.
Barcelona is a troubled club now, so I expect we will be hearing many many news about many players moving from and to it. It is believed that a big number of players will most probably transfer from Barcelona this summer, after hearing that Ronaldinho and Zambrotta are moving to AC Milan and also that Thierry Henry will go back to the English Premier League, maybe going back to Arsenal, now it is the turn for some Eto’o rumors.
Ofcourse now we know that the AC Milan bid for Ronaldinho has failed, but when the news surfaced at first the thing seemed as a done deal.
Few hours after the big Barca failure in front of Real Madrid 4-1 we heard some news that Eto’o might transfer to Tottenham, then the news that maybe he will be exchanged with Adebayor, so he will go to Arsenal and Adebayor goes to Barcelona. I really really doubt that happening, but this latest news of him going to Inter Milan seems more believable.
The reports say that Inter Milan is preparing a 40 million Euros bid to capture him this summer, Inter Milan now is also trying to get Hleb, I guess that is a done deal, but Moratti now is also trying to get Ronaldinho. Moratti always likes to get big players, but will he be able to lure them to Inter Milan, he just failed getting Gerard after his 25 Million pounds bid was turned down by Liverpool.
Well, if Eto’o does come to Inter Milan that means Ibrahimovic will leave, so is it really worth it, can Ibra and Eto’o play side by side?? Well, actually yes why not, I can totally see them playing side by side, but it is too good to be true, Inter needs to be extra ready for the champions league next season, Ibrahimovic besides Eto’o makes a great attack. I know that some people will start shouting that maybe their style of play wont make them click upfront. Actually what does really matter now for Inter Milan is WHO IS THEIR MANAGER?? SHOULDNT THE MANAGER BE THE PERSON ASKING FOR PLAYERS? IS MANCINI IN OR OUT ?!!?!?!
AC Milan started the game in a powerful vibe, Pirlo scored one of his typical goals, from a free kick in the 18th minute, which made the illusion that Inter is in deep trouble, and they were.
The game went on to see both sides battling it until Cruz scored on the 36th minute of the match, in the second half and in the 63rd minute Cambiasso scored the second Inter Milan goal, Milan did not do much after that and sort of gave up, except for couple of tries here and there.
Highlights and more after the jump…
Putting the league calculations aside, any time Ac Milan and Inter Milan play each other it is like a separate championship, and Inter Milan was for sure the happy side. Even more happy because now Inter stands firmly on top of the Italian league table 7 points clear from Roma.
I can simply say that the Italian League is over for this season, clubs will be playing now for the second place, it will take something so special and unusual to make Inter loose their place in the table, I just wish Inter would focus now on the Champions Lague.
He tried to be subtle but failed, Inter Milan’s Ibrahimovic showed his ambitions to join Real Madrid one day, but kept saying he is happy in Inter Milan, and that he wont leave because of the crowd violence in italy and so on, he even semi-attacked fabio cannavaro for leaving italy to play in spain. What do you exactly want ?!
First you say you wish you play for Real Madrid and that they are the best “They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world and everyone in the world wants to play for them.“, and then you drool over joining them “Nobody knows the future. I have a long contract with Inter Milan, but in football, you never know what’s around the corner.“, then you go back to say “I have no fear when playing in Italy because there is a lot of protection. All the players have long and important contracts and are not responsible for what is happening. Unlike (Fabio) Cannavaro, I think I’m lucky to play in Italy where I’m very happy at the moment“.
This is just a rescue call for Real Madrid telling them to please come and take me from this place. I think that Ibrahimovic shouldve never said what he said, and just focus on his football, its not as if he is exceeding expectations this season. And even if he was he just shouldn’t talk to the media in this way.
As usual Mancini just cant hold a score to the end of the match, this is just him, this isn’t the first time and wont be the last, Inter Milan played well during most of the match but Juventus was a powerful rival, they caused Inter Milan some trouble from time to time, and to be honest they deserved a draw, but that’s because our man here is so eager to keep the score 1-0 he just quickly go to defend where he gives the opposition the chance to slip through the lines and score. Se what he said after the match “We should have been more clinical, with a Juve that will never give up. It will serve as a lesson.” Believe me Mancini this isn’t your first lesson, this is so typical of you and your tactics, please try to learn for once in your life.
Anyway Inter Milan is still top of the table but you know even if we won the league a match between Juve and Inter just has a different taste. Its as if you are playing in a separate cup of something.
Inter Milan will be playing their third match today in the Champions League Group G, they are in 2nd place with 3 points, they will be facing CSKA Moscow who are so hungry for a win now so they might have a chance in qualifying because they are in 4th place with just 1 point.
One of many advantages CSKA Moscow has is that they are playing home and there is a number of Inter Milan players who are disqualified such as Burdisso, Chivu, Maicon and Suazo. And Matterazi is still injured, plus some rumors which says that Ibrahimovic wont be playing becuase of a flu, although this is still not verified. So CSKA Moscow have all reasons to grab the 3 points.
Inter Milan will be playing their 8th match this season against reggina in reggina’s stadium, although top of the table and they did show that they are worthy of being the number one but still this isnt gonna be that easy. Our last win against reggina goes back to 2005, so although i dont think we would lose today but i am still afraid from getting a tie. But the really good news is that Viera is now back to show his stuff but he isnt ready yet to play full 90 minutes.
Matterazi is still injured and Ibrahimovic most likely gonna be saved for the Champions League. I expect Adriano will do good today. Here is the expected formation:
Reggina is still looking for a win this season, so they are hungry, but i still expect a win from Inter Milan 2-0, if adriano played as i expect we should get a 4-0.
