Make3D: Convert your 2D images to 3D online (Video)

Make3D” is an algorithm developed by two Stanford computer scientists,  which can convert any 2D image to 3D model, the model is made in flash so you can fly around and explore the generated 3D model.

“The algorithm uses a variety of visual cues that humans use for estimating the 3-D aspects of a scene, If we look at a grass field, we can see that the texture changes in a particular way as it becomes more distant.” said Ashutosh Saxena, a doctoral student in computer science who developed the Make3d website with Andrew Ng, an assistant professor of computer science.

After all the website is impressive although still in experimental phase and has few bugs, but you can fully convert any image from 2D to 3D but it is best to convert a scenery image rather than an image that includes people because it still does not work well with people.

Here is a video to give you an idea what its all about:

Move your mouse with the keyboard

This is a built in feature in windows were you can use the num-pad to precisely move your mouse, this is very much needed in graphic design and some other various situations, this feature is called MouseKeys and can be found in the accessibility controls. You can also use hotkeys to switch this feature on and off.

Vista: 1. Control Panel -> type “MouseKeys” into the search box. Click on the option that says “Move the pointer with the keypad using MouseKeys”. 2. Check the corresponding box to turn on “MouseKeys”. For advanced options click “Set up MouseKeys” located underneath the checkbox.

XP: 1. Control Panel -> Accessibility Options. 2. Select “Mouse” tab -> check the “Use MouseKeys” box to turn the feature on. For advanced options click “Settings”.

Real or Graphics ?!

While surfing the net I found a challenge created by Autodesk, basically they give you a bunch of photos and you have to decide which is real and which is computer graphics.

At first I thought it would be simple, but I got only 6 out of 10 right, so Its not as easy as you might think, just go and see how many will you get right.
