During the past four years and while watching each and every episode of Qalam Rasas I always had a feeling it will get canceled the next day. Mr. Hamdi Qandeel was very brave and sometimes I believe he was too brave, he would amazingly mirror the thoughts of millions of Arabs every week, and call things as he see it.
I think the best TV show on Dubai TV since many years and for years to come is Qalam Rasas, this show was the only thing that made people forgive the shortcomings of the Arabic media, it was a great example of free speech, whenever the Arab media would get attacked for being censored to the max, Qalam Rasas was the show that gave hope to the people that having a show that reflects their views is possible even while the governments are busy creating new rules to further cripple the media.
Lets all get ready to watch Star Academy, The manager, X Factor, Super Star, Mission Fashion, Hizi Ya Nawaem, Taratata. Those shows will never get canceled whatever happens in them, as long as it makes us occupied and our time well wasted. Or maybe we can watch some Turkish drama series, Nour and Sanawat Al Daya’a were not enough apparently now each and every Arab TV station is showing a new Turkish series, tears guaranteed. And if all that does not give you the satisfaction you are longing for, there is always Rotana and Melody and Mazzika channels.
With all this high quality clean intelligent content on our TV stations who needs Qalam Rasas? We do not need to be reminded, we do not need to get informed, we have to stay in a coma.
Hamdi Qandeel always felt that this day might come, In April 2007 he mentioned that he might resign soon, but back then we assumed this was just part of his script and that he is just joking. I realized that since that moment when he talked about resigning his episodes became even more brave and outspoken and he was not afraid at all to name names, its as if he was taking full advantage of the time he has on air.
All what I can say is I wish Mr. Hamdi Qandeel good luck in his next project and that I wish he does not resign and I wish to watch him on another channel, a TV channel which would give him the space he deserves. Friday nights just wont be the same anymore.
In my opinion Tina Fey amazingly played the role of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the accent, the voice and the style. I can bet that during the first few words no one could differentiate between them. Amy Poehler as usual played Hillary Clinton. The sketch was really funny, something I do not usually say about SNL sketches. This was the opening sketch of the premiere of SNL’s new season.
I saw a lot of videos showing employees going crazy. But this is really funny video. The Great Office War by Runaway Box is really funny and nicely directed. Enjoy.
I was trying to find a video that would summarize the primaries, showing the highlights of what happened during the five months. Yesterday I was watching COUNTDOWN and was amazed on how they made a video of just what I was thinking. The way they combined events was clever and funny in sometimes. Watch……
I love comedy shows, who doesn’t, and believe me I love Ikbis too, I am actually an Ikbis user, and I do find their contest ideas interesting, Airplane Contest Singing Contest and so on. They even have a new contest choosing the best of your uploaded images to be hanged on their wall, you might end up getting an Ikbis mug, I know its not much but still new and nice way to engage the users. They are trying to build an interactive community, so that is great.
Their latest “thing” is a new Comedy show named “Ground Zero”, Only 2 episodes have been released til now, and more to come for sure. They are very short episodes, each episode has 3 segments, Movie Dubbing, Lost in Translation and Coming Soon Movies. The show has some other tiny segments, such as the intro and the end bits. I will be a liar if I say I didn’t laugh, I did laugh but I think, and after watching both episodes, the only “FUNNY” part of the show is the “Doblage” Movies Dubbing segment.
The other segments are simply NOT FUNNY, the intro is ok the Movie Dubbing is Hilarious, the Lost in Translation segment were they translate English sentences or proverbs into Arabic which could sound funny is not really funny, but the really really REALLY annoying segment is the last one where a pirate appears and start speaking in English and tries to crack a joke or two and then they show a movie’s trailer, that I can easily say is not funny and even ANNOYING.
The two guys, Mike V.Derderian and Mohammad Jaradat are talented, and I see potential in the show, and it might end up to be a net sensation, but they really need to reorganize their show, cancel segments and add new segments. The possibilities are endless here.
This video of Family Guy spoofing The Matrix surfaced the net lately, it is nicely done. Its not an official video from the creator of Family Guy Seth Mcfarlane, it was done and submitted to YouTube by a fan.
Barack Obama showed up on The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday the 1st of May 2008. He presented the Top 10 List segment titled “Top 10 Interesting Facts about Barack Obama”. I found most of the lines funny.
10. My first act as president will be to stop the fighting between Lauren and Heidi on “The Hills”.
9. In the Illinois primary, I accidentally voted for Kucinich.
8. When I tell my kids to clean their room, I finish with, “I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message”.
7. Throughout high school, I was consistently voted “Barackiest”.
6. Earlier today I bowled a 39.
5. I have canceled all my appearances the day the “Sex and The City” movie opens.
4. It’s the birth place of Fred Astaire (Sorry, that’s a surprising fun fact about Omaha)
3. We are tirelessly working to get the endorsement of Kentucky Derby favorite Colonel John.
2. This has nothing to do with the Top Ten, but what the heck is up with Paula Abdul?
I have been reading all sorts of bad bad reviews from media critics all over the Internet on how much the ABC debate just sucked big time. But putting aside all those articles, you will be able to know how bad it was when you see what Jon Stewart said about it.
He did it the best, he gave three segments for it and the best line was:
“A 60 minute master class in questions that elevate out of context remarks and trivial, insipid miscues into subjects of national discourse, which is my job. Stop doing my job.”
South Park’s latest episode “Over Logging” is one of many amazing episodes, but I guess I can relate to this episode more than anything else, I Guess anybody who uses the net for anything these days can totally relate to it. Just imagine one day you wake up and there is no Internet!! Don’t tell me you wont do the unthinkable to get your precious INTERNET back.
I guess one of the best lines from the episode was:
“Don’t you get it? There’s no Internet to find out why there’s no Internet!”
“What did we used to do to get the news before the Internet?”
“TE..LE..VISION!!”
You can watch the Full Episode on South Park Studios, Click Here. But, here is one of the best scenes:
