Firefox 3 Addon Fixes Memory Problems

If you are a Firefox user who opens endless amount of tabs, like me, you must have realised how Firefox eats up memory. The reason is that Firefox caches the website you visit for some time to allow smoother navigation between tabs, which leads to more memory usage.

It just takes couple of hours of heavy use of Firfox to start seeing really high usage of memory and processor, which makes it really unbearable and the only way to fix this is to restart firefox which is not easy especially when you are in middle of something important.

Although Mozilla say they are going to try to improve this in Firefox 3, until now (Gran Paradiso Alpha 8) it doesn’t show that its going to fully fix the problem. And here comes a new Add-on only for Firefox 3 from Stuart Parmenter called RAMBack.

RAMBack basically adds an option “Clear Caches” in the tools menu or you can also add a button in the toolbar, when clicked RAMBack will clear most of Firefox caches thereby clearing part of your memory.

Quickly Navigate Between Tabs (FireFox Addon)

This is simple and straightforward, “Fancy Numbered Tabs” an add-on created by Chris Gaunt, it replaces the close icon in each tab with a number (1-9), then to quickly navigate between the tabs all what you have to do is just press CTRL + (1-9) or ALT + (1-9).

Actually the shortcuts are already available from FireFox, the only thing this add-on really does is that it show the tab number so you can easily know which tab is which.

To install the add-on Click Here.
