Euro 2008: Austria 1-1 Poland (Match Report and Video)

After both teams lost their first games, they needed to win this one. Neither team had even scored in their first game, so they needed to win for pride if nothing else. Austria came out dressed in all red, with the Poles opting for all white.

Almost immediately Austria took control, making several decent chances, but failing to optimize them. Then the real chances started rolling in. Time after time the Austrian forwards would be caught out by the brilliance of Polish and Celtic goal keeper Artur Boruc, but Austria really should have been three nil up within thirty minutes.

And on that thought of thirty minutes, Poland got a chance at the other end, and very strongly against the run of play convert the opportunity into a goal, something which Austria will regret that they didn’t do. The ball came in from Marek Saganowski, with the Austrian goal keeper getting finger tips to the initial shot, but then knocking it past his own defender and straight into the path of Roger Guerreiro, who slots the ball home to score his first ever goal for his adopted country, Poland.

After that Poland started to play a bit of football, keeping possession well, and suddenly Austria weren’t getting chances, let alone scoring them. Half time and Poland were well on top.

In the second half Poland continued to dominate, making several good chances and maybe could have had another goal or two, where as Austria really struggled to find any momentum, getting increasingly wound up.

There were no real highlights in the second half until the third minute of injury time, when an Austrian free kick was played in and a man in red went down, Howard Webb pointed to the spot. Ivica Vastic made no mistake from twelve yards, slamming the ball into the top corner.

Overall, not a good result for either team, as they both needed a win. But Croatia will be happy, being the second team through to the knock out stage.

Final Score:
Austria 1 – 1 Poland

Euro 2008: Croatia 2-1 Germany (Match Report and Video)

After both teams won their first game, the pressure was on here, the winner almost definitely getting a place in the knock out stages. Croatia’s last game was less than inspiring; winning 1-0 against Austria, where as Germany looked a lot more convincing, beating Poland 2-0 with ease.

As the game kicked off, there was no clear dominator with end to end football being played. Surprisingly, Croatia began to take control, playing some fluent football and getting in a couple of shots. Germany had their fair share of chances too though, including a smashing Ballack free kick startling the Croatian goal keeper.

Then, a Croatian cross in to the box bounced awkwardly for German defender Marcell Jansen, and Darijo Srna managed to prod the ball past German and Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann. Croatia began to look much more confident after this, crossing the ball in regularly, and Niko Kranjcar missed two extremely good chances, which could have put Germany effectively out of the game.

Unfortunately for Croatia though, this was not the case, and as the half drew to an end the Germans started to press more and more, and it was a relief for Croatia when the half time whistle was blown.

The second half brought some entertaining football, Germany leading though, playing fast football, and it was against the run of play when on the sixty third minute a long shot was deflected on to the German post, falling kindly for Ivica Olic to tap the ball into an open goal.

This really wound Germany up, understandably, and they started pressurizing and getting even more worked up when the game wasn’t going their way, but their prayers were answered when on the seventy third minute a Croatian clearance fell to Podolski for him to smash the ball home from the edge of the box.

Germany then looked very likely to equalize, playing some amazing crosses into the box, but unfortunately for them, it just wasn’t working. Then, in stoppage time, a Croatian attack and a bad tackle makes German substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger lash out, pushing Jerko Leko to the ground and getting a straight red.

This game was very entertaining, both teams really going for it, and, against all predictions, Croatia emerged victors and now lead the group with the probability of getting through to the knock out stages.

Final Score:
Croatia 2 – 1 Germany

A message to all Qalam Rasas and Hamdi Qandeel fans, also watch the 6th of June 2008 episode (Video)

In the past few months I have been getting requests from Arabs all around the world, some from Egypt some from UAE and many from Europe, in countries such as UK, Germany and even Finland.

All sending in emails asking me to resume my coverage of Qalam Rasas, you see few months ago I used to talk about each episode and provide some videos of the episode too. There was one reason why I stopped doing that, its because I am lazy, who knows me knows this scary fact :) Anyway, I will try my best to cover each and every episode from now on, that means starting from the episode of the 13th of June 2008.

The reason why I started the coverage is because I felt that Hamdi Qandeel was not given the same interest as other political shows, lets say such as Alqahera Alyaum with Amr Adeeb, I watch all kind of shows, but I see a huge coverage for Alqahera Alyaum, 10 O’clock and those kind of shows.

Forums, Yahoo Groups and many many Facebook Groups cover and discuss and upload videos of those shows, except of Qalam Rasas, although Qalam Rasas is the most daring show of them all, no one, I REPEAT, NO ONE can say on their shows what Hamdi Qandeel says on Qalam Rasas.

That is why few months ago I created the Qalam Rasas - Hamdi Qandeel Facebook Group, join and discuss and find out all about the show.

Here is the episode of the 6th of June 2008:
