Dubai will be underwater in 50 years!!

Thats what Sir Richard Branson have said to delegates at day one of Leaders in Dubai. This is a serious alert, he says if governments do not work towards real solution for global warming this could be the fate of Dubai’s “The Palm” and “World” projects within 50 years.

“Over the next 50 years we will see the Palm projects and the World flooded by water and disappear if the issue of climate change is not addressed by global governments,” the Virgin Group chairman said. “We are continuing to create this blanket of carbon that is getting thicker and thicker every year and which will ultimately heat up to such an extent that every fish will die and the earth will become uninhabitable.”

Sir Branson has already committed $3 billion of Virgine’s profits to develop clean energy. He also offered $25 million to anybody who can eradicate carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

To be honest, although this has been and will be received in a way as if it is a surprise, but who did’nt think of this possibility, I simply think those islands are fragile and can be destroyed easily, and this was so near to happen when cyclone Gonu hit Oman last june and UAE was affected in areas such as Fujaira and reports were saying that the cyclone was headed towards Dubai but lost power changed its course.

So to be honest the risk of those kind of projects to get damage is sort of high, so although this is not totally new news but its good to be discussed on that level, hoping that quick actions follow.
